Van Gallman

Banjo

Van Gallman started on drums at the age of 8 and has been playing music ever since.  At the age of 13 his  father took him to see the Seldom Scene, and after seeing Ben Eldridge playing the banjo, Van knew that is what he wanted to do.  Van's first band was the Bluegrass Limited, his father's band where he played banjo and filled in on bass when needed.  Van also started the fiddlers convention circuit including Yadkinville, Mountain Park, Francisco and of course Galax, where he won many awards.
In 1989 Van joined Dixie Creek Revival with Tommy Long and Johny Gray Brock.  They went on to record the project "Something Old, Something New" in 1994.  Early in 1997 Van joined the group Fairplay and stayed with them three years before returning to Dixie Creek Revival.
Van opened Old House Recording Studio in 1996 and still operates it today.  He is married to Bonnie Gallman and has a step daughter Candy McCollum.  They currently reside in Dobson, NC.
Today, Van has joined friends and bandmates  Vince Bullins, Keith Pyrtle and Dwayne Sutphin to form Kopper Kanyon.
